Dr. Charles Krueger Selected to Participate in Dagstuhl Program For World-Class Software Engineering Researchers and Practitioners

AUSTIN, Texas – January 9, 2011 – BigLever Software founder and CEO, Dr. Charles Krueger, was among a select group of software industry leaders invited to participate in the Feature-Oriented Software Development Program held at the Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz Center for Informatics in Wadern, Saarland, Germany. Dr. Krueger was invited to participate as an internationally recognized thought leader in the systems and software product line engineering field.

The Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz Center is the premier venue for world-class scientists, researchers and practitioners to come together to exchange knowledge and discuss the latest innovations, research findings and cutting-edge topics. The Center promotes fundamental and applied research, new fields of application, continuing and advanced academic education and professional development, and the transfer of knowledge between those involved in the research side and the application side of computer science.

Dagstuhl programs utilize a unique concept to promote personal interaction and discussion of ideas, sketches and open problems, rather than the presentation of established results. The Feature-Oriented Software Development Program, held in January 2011, focused on feature orientation as an emerging software development paradigm that supports the automatic generation of software systems from a "set of units of functionality" called features. While the concept of feature oriented development is still emerging in the mainstream software engineering field, more well known related concepts include software product lines, aspect-oriented software development, service-oriented architecture, and model-driven engineering.

Dr. Krueger, a pioneer in the systems and software product line (SPL) field, has been instrumental in the creation of state-of-the-art SPL technologies and pragmatic feature-based portfolio engineering approaches that have enabled successful large-scale SPL deployments across a spectrum of industries, such as aerospace and defense, automotive, alternative energy, e-commerce, medical and computer systems companies, including three inductees into the Software Product Line Hall of Fame.
